leAD Lake Nona Sports & Health Tech Accelerator Announces Second Cohort

From AI-powered nutrition solutions to a wearable, medical-grade continuous oxygen monitoring device; only the top 1% of applicants were selected for the second Lake Nona cohort

Orlando, FL – August 26, 2021 – The leAD Lake Nona Sports & Health Tech Accelerator has selected six promising sports and health tech startups from around the world for its 2021 cohort. The leAD Lake Nona Sports & Health Tech Accelerator is a joint venture between leAD Sports & Health Tech Partners, the leading sports and health tech investment platform inspired by sports industry legend Adi Dassler, and Lake Nona, an innovative living lab community in Orlando, Florida. Of the 495 applications submitted for the second cohort, only the top 1% of applicants were accepted to the program.

The virtual phase of the program, which lasts one month, kicked off in mid-August 2021. The selected startups are scheduled to be on-site in Lake Nona in September where they can take full advantage of the community’s booming innovation ecosystem. Heralded as the Silicon Valley of sports and health tech, Lake Nona is a sought-after destination for visionary companies and entrepreneurs that want to join a collaborative environment where new ideas can be tested across a variety of real-world settings.

The selected startups for leAD Lake Nona’s second cohort

Of the 495 applications, the health and well-being vertical was the most popular and accounted for 44% of the solutions submitted. Solutions targeting athletes – either amateur or professional athletes – accounted for 38% of all applications. In terms of geography, 44% of the applicants are based in North America followed by Europe with 34%.

Kutai from Medellin, Colombia

Kutai is an AI-powered guide that helps users identify and improve their eating habits. Leveraging hardware and software, Kutai impacts the health, well-being and performance of its users through frictionless, holistic solutions that combine nutrition technology and motivation.

OxiWear from Arlington, VA, US

OxiWear is an ear-wearable, vital monitoring, and emergency alert accessory that enables continuous medical-grade oxygen monitoring to reduce hypoxic injuries, and with that not only save healthcare costs but ultimately lives.

Point from Los Angeles, California, US

Point connects and evaluates biometric health data from various devices, apps, and wellness experiences, to provide users with personalized and actionable recommendations on how to reach health and fitness goals.

Suji from Edinburgh, Scotland

Suji develops smart compression tools that help athletes relieve pain, improve performance, and recover faster using very low-intensity exercise. Collecting exercise data, Suji begins to identify and highlight muscular weaknesses before injury occurs.

indiFIT from Chicago, Illinois, US

indiFIT is a SaaS platform that equips fitness and wellness entrepreneurs with everything they need to run their own business – from booking and payment to admin task automation and marketing tools.

Flumina from Lake Nona, Orlando, US

Flumina is building lights that promote faster healing and an improved recovery time by using selective parts of the wavelengths of the light.

The leAD Lake Nona space

The on-site leAD Lake Nona program is located within the new 16,000-square-foot Pixon MS2 innovation space in the heart of Lake Nona Town Center – the community’s open-air regional entertainment district. Wired with gigabit infrastructure and access to a high-speed 5G network, the Pixon MS2 space provides a vibrant environment lined with art and complete with co-working spaces, conference rooms, and common areas to allow participants to conceive, test, and implement their ideas.
