Fisher House Celebrates One Year
Serving 1,231 family members of hospitalized Veterans and counting.
Today marks exactly one year since the Orlando Fisher House in Lake Nona was officially dedicated. In the 365 days following the dedication ceremony – 1,231 family members and caregivers of hospitalized Central Florida Veterans have received complimentary lodging at the Fisher House Orlando.
“I came here overwhelmed and quite concerned about my husband’s prolonged sickness,” wrote a Fisher House Orlando guest. “I am now rested and blessed and ready to go home.”
Fisher House Orlando unites families and caregivers and relieves the financial and emotional strain of being away from home while their loved one is receiving care. A total of 16 suites include private bedrooms and baths, and Orlando Fisher House guests share a common kitchen, laundry facility, dining room and an inviting living room. The Orlando Fisher House ensures families never pay a lodging fee.
A total of 779 rooms have been occupied since the first guest arrived – saving loved ones of hospitalized veterans approximately $130,000 combined. The longest length of stay for a single guest at Fisher House Orlando was 28 days – saving the family member nearly $5,000 in lodging expenses.
“Because of Fisher House I was able to spend quality time with my dying father and not have to worry about the expense of a hotel,” said a Fisher House Orlando guest.
