Meet the golf professional helping players from beginner to elite elevate their game

June 18, 2021

We’ve all heard the phrase “practice makes perfect,” but have you ever heard practice makes permanent?

It’s a twist on the original that you’ll hear from Rob Roylance, a golf professional and the head golf instructor at InClubGolf at the Lake Nona Performance Club (LNPC), opening in August.

He’s excited to introduce golfers of any age and skill level to the first InClubGolf in Florida where you’ll learn how to identify and replicate successful movements to help make your practice more permanent.

In 2008, he moved to Lake Nona to chase a dream of going pro. Since then, he’s played mini-tours and state opens across the eastern U.S. and Florida with six tournament victories and 20 top-10 finishes. During that time, he also began coaching golf.

Now, he’s taking those years of experience to another level with state-of-the-art technology at InClubGolf. In this Q&A, Roylance shares his passion for coaching and how InClubGolf can help every golfer, from beginner to pro, improve their swing.

Tell us about yourself – What led you to Lake Nona and coaching at InClubGolf?

After I graduated from Stetson University in 2007, I wanted to pursue a professional career in golf and Lake Nona was the place to be, and still is! Now there is so much more to do here with great food, community events, sports and now the Lake Nona Performance Club.

As a golf coach, I am a firm believer in developing people as athletes and as golfers. I’ve been coaching golf in the Lake Nona area since 2015 and was excited when a friend told me about the new performance club and its golf training studio with access to high tech training equipment and personal trainers. He recommended I apply for a coaching position and the next thing I knew, I got the job and got to tour the construction site as LNPC came to life.

What can golfers, beginner to elite, expect at InClubGolf?

InClubGolf is a safe and effective environment for every golfer, whether you’re a beginner, junior, or a more seasoned player. Members have access to things like private coaching with me, simulation bays, and a putting lab that uses hydraulics to change the slope of the ground.

When you join, we’ll teach you how to use the technology and understand its feedback to help you practice and train smarter. For beginners, this technology will help accelerate the learning process. For junior and seasoned golfers, it will help you practice and train more efficiently.

As an InClubGolf member, you’ll have access to the studio anytime the Lake Nona Performance Club is open on your own time. There’s a live scheduling app that members can download to easily reserve a training session with me or book a bay to practice on their own.

What feature are you most excited about at InClubGolf?

That’s a tough question to answer because when you’re in the studio, the environment is the most exciting part. We encourage everyone to come for a tour to see for themselves.

One of the best things about the studio is that our technology makes every rep count whether you’re playing with friends or training for better performance on your own. Our high-performance technology helps track your movements while mirrors and cameras in the studio help you see yourself in real time to rehearse a motion or work on your posture, grip, or anything else you may be focusing on. Having access to TrackMan 4 and Boditrak allows you to get real time feedback on every swing you make.

Another exciting feature for me as a coach is our partnership with the Lake Nona Performance Club. This means that I can refer you to personal trainers at the performance club who can help you become a better athlete while you and I work together on your skills as a golfer in the studio. Having an indoor facility like this is a huge advantage in the Florida heat or when tee time gets rained out.

What advice would you give to beginner golfers?

Anyone who has ever tried to hit that little white golf ball knows it’s a bit harder than it looks. It’s all about your stance, posture, balance, speed, and athleticism. All those things need to be sequenced and developed over time. Be patient with yourself and keep practicing. I firmly believe each repetition you make will be more solid than the last.
