Neighbors Bring Socially Distant Street Art to Lake Nona

More than 100 families in the Laureate Park neighborhood participated in a colorful community activity to decorate their sidewalks and driveways with doodles, designs, and encouraging messages for their fellow neighbors.

This effort to share joy and solidarity, while also practicing social distancing, provided the entire community with a special reason to get outside and explore what new creations have been added to the neighborhood.

From obstacle courses to sing-a-longs, residents put their artistic talents on display. Maggie Fischer drew a stunning “Nona Lisa” interpretation of the famous “Mona Lisa” in addition to a recreation of “Girl with a Pearl Earring.”

“I think it’s really important to balance out a lot of the fears and unknown that’s going on right now with inspiration,” Fischer said. “There have always been times like this and I think humans in general have a good history of bringing something beautiful out of something negative.”

Other displays featured an interactive element including a butterfly wings, a surf board, and weight-lifting where neighbors passing by could become part of the picture.
