Four fresh air activities to do in Lake Nona

Thursday, March 19th 2020

One of the beautiful things about living in Lake Nona is the variety of different ways you can enjoy the outdoors. As we continue to practice social distancing, we’re sharing ways to take a break from the virtual classroom – or conference room – and enjoy some Florida sunshine. Not to mention, staying active and spending time outside are natural stress reducers. If you’re feeling a bit sluggish, it may be time for a healthy dose of vitamin D.

Decorate your sidewalk or driveway with chalk doodles, designs, and encouraging messages for your neighbors as they stroll by. Make sure to take photos of what you see and share it with us and other neighbors using the hashtag #LNchalkwalk.

Create a bouquet of Lake Nona grown blooms with fresh clippings from the beautiful wildflowers growing along Tavistock Lakes Boulevard between Pixon and Laureate Park. Be sure to cut the cosmos close to the base of the stem while keeping a set of leaves intact. The more you cut them, the more they’ll grow!

Save your scraps! Blending banana peels, eggshells and coffee grinds makes a great fertilizer. Other scraps from food like carrots, potatoes and garlic can be planted to re-grow with your new homemade fertilizer. Whether it’s in one of our community gardens or in your own backyard, learning to grow your own fruits, veggies, and spices can be a fun and exciting experience for kids.

Lake Nona has more than 40 miles of paved and unpaved trails to explore. Take your bike out for a breezy break from screen time or clear your mind on a run or nature walk along the paths, soaking in all the sights and sounds.
